The chess set started from a challenge to make a full recognisable set of players from a lathe only. In real terms the knight and the rook are a compromise and the bishop doesn't have his customary slash.

I tried to push the material to its limits by making the pieces as filigree as possible if your tooling isn't sharp you may need to reduce the feed rates.

At Boxford we have an Integerex 200 (Video shown here), this allows what were many machine operations over numerous machines to one machine from bill it to finished in one machine.

The chess set is designed to show the ability of the CNC lathe to produce quite delicate and intricate parts.

Chess Set

The King - I wanted the king to look regal and defiant, i used the suggestion of body shape with the feeling of a ruff at the neck level.

The Queen - The queen has a more feminine shape and is supposed to give the air of sophistication with her long neck Queen

The Bishop - The bishop i am told is too tall so you may wish to shorten him unless like me you are prepared to accept that he thinks he is royalty but only gets there by stretching his neck. Bishop

The Knight - Is a compromise and has been stylised to give the feeling of armored suit. Knight

The Rook - Again the rook is a compromise to get a castle looking shape. Rook
