As part of my own musical growth I moved from conventional keyboards that make the sounds internally and therefore have a lifespan albeit large and moved over to the new computer generated VST sounds. As part of making this move i made an intermediate step where I still had my analogue mixer and my rack mounted sound modules. Despite all assurances we often find it hard to abandon that with which we are so familiar, to embrace the completely new or "Always caution I've been bitten before."

This project again shows the pupils the value of being able to manufacture your own solutions. There is nothing more satisfying than being sat at a piece of furniture you designed and made.

As I get nearer retirement (Oh Dear) I am starting to plan not just the building of my own furniture but the construction of a complete house, I already know that it is unlikely that there is a solution that fits my needs so I am considering building the perfect fit.

Empty Rack After Assembly

Rack after population.

The rack mounted unit will have a place in most mini studios for the foreseeable future either holding rack based instruments like the Roland Fantom-XR Rack Synthesizer Sampler, the Korg Radias Rack Synthesizer, or Rack mounted effects processors.

The unit has also been designed with a sloping top to allow a small mixer to be sat on the top.

The basic design has two drawings. The first being the sides and top (2 Off).

The second being the connecting pieces.

Connectors

The holes in the sides and the connecting pieces are to enable easy access to the back of the rack units to connect wires, power and Midi.
