Well I can tell you now this is officially the largest single CNC School project I have even designed. Each of the podiums are 1200mm square making a very large area for each team to stand for their photo call. The podium saw it's first use at Meadowhall during the UK finals of the 2009 Scalextric competition. To help transport them through the building two wheeled skates were designed and built one to hold the number 1 block the second to take the 2 and 3 blocks together. |

Manufacturing in the current world of engineering is becoming more and more machine controlled. Very few if any operations are now performed by human operators. This philosophy is what I am trying to emulate with these large projects. Pupils need to think in terms of manufacture then assemble not manufacture then fit as was the tradition. The old fashioned fitting shop with its skills pack will become a thing of the past. Super accurate manufacture will mean products are only assembled as the need to make adjustments for errors in manufacture disappear. | |||||||
