The Robot Hand project is intended not necessarily as a student project but probably would be an after school club project, alternatively it could just be one of the departments awe and wonder artifacts.

The one thing I can guarantee is that every class that you put this unit in front of will be spellbound. Its older brother was used in front of many classes and the pupils were mesmerized by how the fingers move realistically, when you put your hand in its palm it will grab hold, wrapping round your hand or any shape for that matter.

Serving Suggestions :- (Ideas from the teaching community).

"I have found this project invaluable for inspiring year seven students into simple design the string mechanics show how little is needed to achieve your goal" - Warwickshire

"I spent six months telling my students you couldn't build a robot hand with string and a rope- thanks (LOL)." - Birmingham

"The wow factor this gives my students allowed me to start a robot club and bring GCSE electronics back to the school" - Doncaster

The original hand was made from 0.25mm brass etched and then folded and soldered to make each finger segment. That unit used to use strings to close the fingers and elastic bands to return them to straight.

The circuit board was designed with a general usage ability in mind and will resurface in the Biggle Bots and many other projects in the future.
